Today, you will learn about some of the biggest and the best-known names in the golfing world. Here they are:
Even though Tiger Woods is behind Jack Nicklaus when it comes to holding the record for winning the most major titles, Tiger Woods is responsible for taking the game to the masses almost single-handedly. While he only won 14 titles against Jack’s 18, Woods has been in the news for all the right reasons, and then, all the wrong reasons.
Although Nicklaus failed to dominate his opponents and walk away like it was a walk in the park, like Woods was able to do almost every time he participated, he was called the Golden Bear for a reason. He has been a consistent performer with 18 majors and coming a close second 19 other times.
Ben Hogan has been known to struggle for the longest time before he got his breakthrough performance. They say practice takes time and for Hogan, that was certainly true. Even after meeting with an automobile accident that almost destroyed his career, Hogan went on to win 9 major titles and a career-best of 62 wins. It is often said that Hogan could have been at the top if he hadn’t met with the accident.
In the days of Bobby Jones, there were only four open championships and Jones took an early retirement at the age of 28. Had he played in the days of Tiger Woods, things could have been different. He went on to win all four titles 13 times in a row making him one of the greatest golf players of all time.
The list is not exhaustive and there are many others who could have easily made the list but didn’t base on our criteria of selection.
